In a preamble, Cuomo said that “if you’re a Nazi, or you’re a hater, or wanna eradicate people, anti-Semitic — something like that — then you have no value, then I don’t have you on the show.” “But if you have ideas that are controversial, if you’re somebody who outrages people because of what you say you want for this country or others that aren’t about destroying or hurting people, they’re just different, then that’s about conversation,” continued Cuomo before suggesting that Hinkle’s “ideas” are “resonant.”
Hinkle went on to advocate the cessation of all American aid to Israel. “What happens if you cease all military aid for Israel? You’re gonna have Israel collapse as a country. And then you would have one country where hopefully people can get along like they have for generations and generations prior to 1948,” said Hinkle.
Notably, Cuomo did not mention Hinkle’s spread of disinformation about the war or conspiracy-mongering about Jews. Since the outbreak of the war, Hinkle has ceaselessly spread blatant falsehoods about Israel, using footage from the Syrian civil war to suggest it had bombed a Gazan hospital, and falsely citing Haaretz in an effort to downplay the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7.
He has also promoted an incomprehensible conspiracy theory connecting “high chairs and stained mattresses” stored in New York City’s “secret underground synagogue tunnels” with a Reddit produced “map of registered sex offenders living in Israel,” as well as declared that “every Zionist woman” in his “DM’s [sic] is ugly as hell.”
As CNN’s Jake Tapper pointed out on X in response to the interview, Hinkle has also denied that Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad has used chemical weapons, even calling him a “hero.”
In a statement to Mediaite, Cuomo defended his interview: “It is clearly untrue that I have ever, or would ever, give any deference to any kind of anti-semitism. This is another cheap hit piece. I get that some in the media want to say what can and can not be said. People can make quick work of why Hinkle has such a robust following, and how they feel about his ideas. Mediaite can try to frame me as an apologist for a bigot…but that is about their toxic agenda, not the truth.”
I recommend that you read the whole article.

I’ve been quiet about the Palestine conflict going on right now, but I want to put this out there. If you see tweets from these two twitter users:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DO NOT TRUST THEM
They are well known fake leftist grifters, and they’re capitalizing on everyone’s outrage.
For those unaware, Jimmy Dore constantly pedals COVID-19 conspiracy theories. He is also known to attack democrats in congress, that may not sound like a bad thing at first, however he has attacked both AOC and Omar many times for “not being good enough”, which is his way of saying that he hates them for not coming on his show anymore. By the way, he never has the same energy or outrage towards republicans who are by and large, bigger threats to our rights. If he’s a progressive, why does he slam the most progressive people we have in congress right now? Because it gets him views and ad revenue from his mostly conservative audience. It’s why he’s obsessed with COVID conspiracy theories.
Next is Jackson Hinkle, he has admitted drunkenly that he does everything for clout. He doesn’t care about anything that doesn’t get him notoriety. Even then he has taken money from lobby groups associated with anti-Semitic people and pro-Assad lobby groups. Bashar Al-Assad is a brutal dictator of Syria and has been known to shell and gas his own people to flush out rebel groups in the country. So he’s anti-Israel, but he’s fine with Assad using chemical weapons on his own people?
I’m telling people this because I’ve seen friends of mine and artists on twitter that I like falling for these frauds. It’s great that people want to support Palestine now more than ever, but please be careful about who you’re liking and retweeting. If you’d like more evidence to support that these guys are frauds, DM or reblog me with questions I’ll be happy to keep you informed.

Ali Abunimah. Rania Khalek. Lowkey. Sana Saeed. Max Blumenthal. SyrianGirl. Roger Waters. Abby Martin. Jackson Hinkle (literal proponent of "MAGA Communism, literally said he was glad to have Netanyahu in power for the sake of "the multipolar world order," with this guy especially wtf is anyone doing).
There are so many other people you can rely on and amplify. Much like TERFS claim to be radical feminists and espouse fascist views, several of these people and their fellow travelers have increasingly dipped toward the right even as they maintain their staunch (and in most cases I don't doubt sincere) support for Palestine. These are people condemning the bombing of hospitals today who didn't care when Asad and his allies did it over and over in Syria. You may be seeing their names on your feeds for the first time, saying all the right things. You may have known of them a while and just not paid much attention to what they did or didn't say and do about Syria, or the context in which those acts occurred. I don't know your business. But you should know this.

Razan Saffour's thread
Robin Yassin-Kassab's thread and blog post linked at the end. An excerpt from the latter (and to be clear, he acknowledges that the people he's talking about as "Palestinian Assadists" are not most Palestinians by a long shot):
How has the Assad regime under father and son won such loyalty? Is it because in 1967 Hafez al-Assad, then defence minister, ordered the Syrian army to retreat from the Golan before any Israeli soldiers had turned up? So the Golan was handed to Israel, which then annexed it. Or is it because in 1973 Hafez al-Assad, now in absolute control, lost another war (not surprising given his endless purges and rabid sectarianization of the army) but spun the defeat as a historic victory and proof of his nationalist genius? Perhaps it’s because early in the Lebanese civil war, the Assad regime, which had loudly proclaimed its support for the Palestinian/Muslim/leftist alliance, intervened, but on the side of the pro-Israel Maronite Falangists to defeat the Palestinian/Muslim/Leftist alliance? Or could it be because throughout the 1980s the Assad regime slaughtered tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians in camps in Lebanon, most notably at Tel Za’atar? Perhaps it’s because the regime under Bashar utterly destroyed Yarmouk camp, until then Syria’s most important centre of Palestinian culture. Or because the regime tortured and starved so many Palestinians to death during the Syrian Revolution.
I have been saying for years that as we continue to tolerate these elements for the sake of unity or timing, we do not strengthen what left power or media reach we have. We shoot our own causes in the foot. We derail our analyses and fall into our own conspiracy universes. We blind ourselves and get in bed with fascists. The same people have been putting on the same act every time a people rises up against a government opposed to the US & co or allied with one such. Kazakhstan. Hong Kong. Syria. Every time they say it's a CIA plot. Every time they deny and dismiss the left elements in such uprisings that could be supported and amplified. Every time this is a blow against international solidarities and connections. Every time their followers, the people they are so valuably bringing to the left, are misled.
when you know every last prominent online ~leftist intellectual~ who threw Syrians under the bus out of a childish need to preserve the idea that because Asad is currently on the outs with the US he's some kind of socialist liberator vanguard-bearer* and therefore actually bought the idea that the uprising was some CIA op shit, seeing those exact same people say and write perfectly good things about Palestine is this extra dose of infuriating because my first instinct is that I want to share them, I want to pass them on, but then I see the name and I fucking refuse to amplify these people even if their broken clocks are right today.
and meanwhile on twitter people are taking images of barrel-bombed Syrian cities, bleeding and crying Syrian children, and claiming they're from Gaza or even from Israel.
I absolutely don't begrudge Palestinians a shred of rhetoric or visibility. they need it. genocide is underway. it just makes me want to throw up to watch a certain kind of online clout-chaser exploit the complete abandonment of Syrians for the umpteenth time in order to clout-chase about Palestine. and people who either understandably don't know who they are, or who do and should fucking know better but apparently don't care or even buy it, laud them for it. twelve years of these people building themselves up on the bodies of Syrians whose memories they insult out loud and implicitly, in word and image and silence, and calling themselves the left.
----
*Asad ran black sites for the CIA, tried his damnedest to get in good with the US and Europe in the 2000s and pivoted back toward Iran only when it became clear that wouldn't work, and even before his failson antics his daddy joined the US's Gulf War coalition for money and free rein to keep occupying Lebanon. and somehow it's worth building an entire alternate reality to claim that he's a pillar of anti-imperial resistance, for...what, exactly? what does anybody win except smug certainty. I fucking hate it here. I always have to soothe myself by remembering when Dana al-Kurd had the integrity to come out and admit that she used to hold this position and then realized the sheer cognitive dissonance involved and changed her mind. sucks that I have exactly that one example to go back to.
